I wrote about some prospects of European Basketball Balcanic Games 2024. Türkiye was the champion of the tournament led by HC Özcan Çakar. Thanks to the Romanian Basketball Federation for the quality broadcast and the tournament.

DARIUS CARUTASU – TÜRKİYE

Position: G/F
Team: Anadolu Efes
Date of birth: 30.03.2009
Height: 6’7″ / 2.01

Stats: 3 games | 27 MIN | 18.7 PTS | %79 2PT (11/14) | %39 3PT (7/18) | %81 FT (13/16) | 6 REB | 3.7 AST | 3.3 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 26 EFF

MVP! Darius is a versatile player who filled up the stat sheet every game. Has an amazing defensive upside with his wingspan and BBIQ. 5.3 stock per game really impressive.

In offense, he’s a good shooter and effective finisher around the rim. Has a playmaking ability. Can play point forward in his career. Needs to be more create his shot and better handler with the ball.

I think he is an NBA prospect. Son of former basketball player Virgil Carutasu and the brother of professional volleyball player Alexia Carutasu.

ÖMER KUTLUAY – TÜRKİYE

Position: G
Team: Real Madrid
Date of birth: 27.03.2009
Height: 6’3″ / 191

Stats: 28 MIN | 20.3 PTS | %52 2PT (15/29) | %36 3PT (5/14) | %76 FT (16/21) | 5.3 REB | 5.3 AST | 2 STL | 3.7 TO | 20.3 EFF

Ömer was the top scorer in the tournament and was selected to the All-Star Five.

My favorite thing about Ömer is his playmaking ability. High BBIQ with a great court vision. Makes really mature decisions for his age. Has a 3-level scorer potential. Drives well to the rim, good on mid-range. Can create his shot with ease. I also like his defense.

Needs to be a better shooter. I think that as he gets stronger, he will have no trouble shooting 3PTs. He’s not a bad shooter right now either, he’ll get better.

He is the son of Turkish basketball legend İbrahim Kutluay. I think he is an NBA prospect.

DEMİR ÖZTÜRK – TÜRKİYE

Position: F
Team: Anadolu Efes
Date of birth: 16.02.2009
Height: 6’7″ / 2.02

Stats: 31 MIN | 14.7 PTS | %50 2PT (4/8) | %42 3PT (9/21) | %75 FT (9/12) | 4.7 REB | 2 AST | 2.3 STL | 2.3 TO | 15.3 EFF

Lefty forward especially good against Romania with 7/9 3PT. Has a good shooter potential, needs to be consistent. I like his shooting mechanics.

Versatile player who is mature for his age. Has a good court vision and sometimes plays like a guard, especially in İstanbul U18 League.

EMİR KARABULUT – TÜRKİYE

Position: C
Team: TOFAŞ
Date of birth: 09.02.2009
Height: 7’0″ / 2.12

Stats: 16 MIN | 5.7 PTS | %43 FG (6/14) | %71 FT (5/7) | 8.7 REB (4.7 OREB) | 11.3 EFF

After only 3 minutes of play in the first game, Emir showed some good flashes.

Still raw, but his agressiveness on the rebound and FTs are positive things. He’s gotten quicker since the last time I watched him.

Needs to be better finisher around the rim and play more physical.

Played in Barcelona the last 2 years and came back to Türkiye this season.

BINE PREGL – SLOVENIA

Position: G
Team: Cedevita Olimpija
Date of birth: 29.05.2009
Height: 6’2″ / 1.87

Stats: 22 MIN | 14 PTS | %31 2PT (4/13) | %40 3PT (8/20) | %83 FT (10/12) | 5.3 REB | 3 AST | 4.3 TO | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 12.3 EFF

I only watched Pregl against Türkiye and I really liked his game.

Lefty guard showed a versatile performance against Türkiye. Looks like a good shooter. Can create his shot and has nice mechanics. Smart player with a good court vision.

Needs to be careful with turnovers and be a better finisher around the rim.

Small notes about some other prospects:

David Alexandru Kovacs (Romania): Showed really nice scoring performances. Good shooter who plays with %40 3PT (8/20). Active hands on defense, effective finisher around the rim. Good on FTs.

Tibet Doruk Evin (Türkiye): Effective ball pressure on defense. Looks like a nice shooter, but I need to see more of his offense.

Ömer Yusuf Şık (Türkiye): Drives well to the rim and finishes. Showed good playmaking moments. I would like to see more shooting from him.

Kartal Bora Şimşek (Türkiye): You can check out my scouting notes on Kartal Bora Şimşek by clicking here. His shooting was good in this tournament.
