I prepared the scouting report of Cedevita’s Joan Beringer, one of my favorite prospects for the 2025 NBA Draft.

JOAN BERINGER – CEDEVITA OLIMPIJA

Position: C

Date of birth: 11.11.2006

Nationality: France

Height: 6’10” / 2.07

He only started taking basketball seriously relatively late, less than three years ago.

Took his first basketball steps with SIG Strasbourg and played two seasons with the youth team.

Participated in the adidas Eurocamp 2024 with Team Next Gen.

Played for the NGT Dubai in the 2023-24 ANGT Dubai.

Represented France at the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024.

Finished the 1st ranked in a 2PT FG percentage with %70.5 (31/44) in the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024.

Signed his first professional contract with Cedevita Olimpija, until 2028.

PHYSICAL

Joan Beringer stands at 6’10” with a long arms. Very athletic and agile player who runs the floor extremely well. Can run full court in the 4 seconds and finishes the offense with an alley-oop dunk. That’s not an exaggeration, he’s shown it. Has a great rim-runner potential with his explosiveness and mobility. High-motor player who can impact both ends of the floor. Doesn’t avoid contact, which is important because of he plays in two leagues (ABA League/EuroCup) against a lot of mature and tough center. Has a good rim-protector potential with his wingspan and athletic tools. Needs to get stronger and add muscle to his upper body, broaden his shoulders.

STRENGTHS

Offense

Beringer has a limited role and threat in the offense, plays with 3.4 PTS in ABA League and 4.2 PTS in EuroCup so far. He’s a roller in pick&roll offense and has a lob threat thanks to his athleticism. Likes to finish off offenses with dunks. This season, 21 of his 46 field goals have been dunks. Effective in transition with his rim-runner potential. Active on the offensive rebound. Has attempted and made 2 mid-range jumpers in his last 2 games. This is really important for his offensive arsenal. At the moment he is just a rim-finishing big.

Defense

Defense is the strongest part of the Beringer’s game. I like his defensive mobility. Athletic, can defend multiple positions, has a good rim-protector potential thanks to his verticality and wingspan. Always has active hands with his relentless effort. Can make a lot of hustle plays and deflections. Good post-up defender who doesn’t avoid contact. Aggressive on show-ups. Average isolation defender against guards.

He’s a good rebounder on both offense and defense. Ranked 20th in the EuroCup with 5.2 rebounds per game, with the least playing time (16:27 MIN) among the top 20 players.

WEAKNESSES

Offense

Beringer has a limited role and threat in offense like I said. Doesn’t have enough footwork moves and isn’t effective in the post-up offense. Can’t create enough space for himself. One of my concerns about his offense is his finishing in the paint. His finishing is poor despite contact and he misses too many easy layups. Needs to be a better finisher around the rim and add some post moves to his offense.

Doesn’t have a shooting threat at the moment. Has never attempted a three-pointer in his career. I am excited because of he started to try mid-range shots in the last few games. His FTs has also improved compared to his performance in the French U21 league. But he still has room for improvement in his FTs. I don’t think he’ll start shooting threes this season, but his mid-range shooting is worth keeping an eye on.

Defense

I don’t like Beringer’s pick&roll/pop defense. Especially in pick&pop attacks, he reacts too late to where to stand and gives the opponent space for 3PTs. Needs to develop his defensive awareness. Also needs to watch out for foul trouble. His active hands sometimes get him into easy foul trouble. Averaged 2 fouls per 15 minutes in the ABA League and EuroCup.

OVERALL

Joan Beringer is one of my favorite prospects in this draft cycle. He is one of the youngest players eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft and is gaining significant experience in both the ABA League/EuroCup. Despite the experience he gained this season, he is still a raw player who has only been playing basketball for 3 years.

But I think he fits the NBA archetype and his game is translatable to the NBA. In the NBA, I expect him to play a role similar to that of Adem Bona of the Philadelphia 76’ers. Relentless effort with his high motor, rim protection, crashed offensive glass and lob threat.

My 2025 NBA Draft projection for him is an early second round pick, but if he continues to develop well he can be a late first round pick. We could be talking 25-35 picks. This year’s draft is so stacked and makes it difficult to comment, but I believe in Beringer’s potential. If things don’t go his way, he could also be considered for the 2026 NBA Draft, which wouldn’t be a problem as he’s still very young.
