Despite being one year younger than the tournament, Oliver Kullamäe has the most assists in the 9 FIBA Tournaments (U16, U17, U18, U20 and all divisions) held this summer.
He is a good playmaker. High basketball IQ. Really good passer. One of the best PG’s in 2007.
He needs to be careful turnovers and needs to be more consistent on threes.
INTERVIEW
How and when did you start playing basketball?
I was born into a basketball family, my father was a pro and my brother is one currently, so I guess that’s were it all started. I was very young.
You had good performances in the U18 European Championship. What do you think about the tournament?
It was a lot of fun getting to play with my old friends again and under different coaching. We were one of the younger teams in the tournament which means most of the guys are returning next year as we’re trying to be more competitive next summer. It was a great experience for all of us.
You play for Ratiopharm Ulm, one of the best youth teams in Europe. How did your transfer to Ulm happen?
My transfer to Ulm happened because my father had played in Bamberg with now the head of youth development in Ulm Chris Ensminger. He played a big role in the process of me transferring here.
How was the last season for you in general? You played ANGT, NBBL and Regionalliga.
Last year I had a very different role in each team that I played for. In NBBL I had the ball in my hands a lot and I had more freedom, however at ANGT I had to play my role of getting the possession started and putting the ball to the right place. Regionalliga just gave me a glimpse of men’s basketball really.
What are your expectations from this season?
This season I’m mostly hoping to improve physically, really trying to fill out my frame. I hope to get as many minutes in Pro B as I can as well.
What are your long-term goals for a basketball career?
My long-term goals for my basketball career are reaching the highest level of basketball possible and fulfilling my potential whether it’s the NBA or something else.
What are the skills that you think make a difference in your game?
The skills that seperate my game from the others is my ball handling skills and my playmaking skills, having the ability to read the defense in a way not everyone can.
Which skills do you want to improve in your game?
The skill that I’m looking to improve the most is my shooting because it has been very inconsistent till now, also this summer.
Who is your favorite basketball player?
My favourite basketball player is my brother Kristian Kullamäe.
Which basketball player would you like to play with in the future?
My brother would be the one who I would like to play with in the future, also Kevin Punter from Barcelona.
